Nahuel Noll leads with 63 touches per game, Filip Stankovic and Nicolas Kristof complete a tight top three, while Jordan Pickford and Bernd Leno sit outside the top 10
The modern goalkeeper is involved in more phases of a football match than ever before. Distribution and build-up are part of that expanded role, but touches also come from saves, claims, recoveries and other defensive actions, making the statistic a broad measure of how frequently a goalkeeper interacts with the ball.
Winsportsonline analysed goalkeeper touch data from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 and ranked the 20 highest figures by touches per 90 minutes. Paderborn’s Nahuel Noll leads with 63.0 touches per match, ahead of Venezia’s Filip Stankovic at 61.5 and Elversberg’s Nicolas Kristof at 61.0, with just two touches separating the top three. Matias Dituro ranks fourth at 60.25 despite recording the highest raw total of any goalkeeper on the list, with 482 touches across eight matches. Coventry’s Carl Rushworth is the highest-ranked Premier League goalkeeper in seventh, closely followed by Leeds’ James Trafford in eighth, while Hull City’s Kostas Tzolakis is 10th, Everton’s Jordan Pickford 12th and Fulham’s Bernd Leno 13th. From Noll in first to Leo Roman in 20th, the ranking spans 17.5 touches per match.
Key Takeaways:
- Nahuel Noll ranks first with 63.0 touches per match, followed by Filip Stankovic at 61.5 and Nicolas Kristof at 61.0

Goalkeepers in Europe’s Top 5 Leagues with the Most Ball Touches per Match

Noll leads on frequency, while Dituro has the most total touches
Nahuel Noll reaches the top of the ranking despite playing only five matches. His 315 touches across 450 minutes translate into 63.0 per match, the highest rate among the goalkeepers analysed.
Filip Stankovic is close behind with 61.5 touches per match after recording 369 in six appearances, while Nicolas Kristof takes third with 61.0 from 305 touches across five games. Only two touches per match separate first and third, leaving little distance between the leading three.
Matias Dituro presents the most interesting difference between volume and rate. The Elche goalkeeper has accumulated 482 touches, more than anyone else in the top 20, but has also played eight matches. His average of 60.25 places him fourth rather than first, showing why the ranking changes once the different number of appearances is taken into account.
Strasbourg’s Filip Jorgensen follows in fifth with 57.5, while Anthony Lopes is sixth at 56.0. The top six are therefore all above 56 touches per match before the ranking drops into a tightly packed group immediately below them.
Rushworth leads the Premier League names from seventh
Coventry’s Carl Rushworth enters the ranking in seventh place with 54.67 touches per match. Leeds’ James Trafford is directly behind him in eighth at 54.17, only half a touch per game separating the two highest-ranked Premier League goalkeepers.
Justin Bijlow separates them from another Premier League goalkeeper by taking ninth place for Genoa with 53.83. Hull City’s Kostas Tzolakis then closes the top 10 at 53.17 touches per match. Only 1.5 touches separate Rushworth in seventh from Tzolakis in 10th. That narrow margin shows how little distinguishes much of the middle of the ranking after the higher figures recorded by Noll, Stankovic, Kristof and Dituro.
Pickford, Leno and Unai Simon all rank outside the top 10
Yehvann Diouf sits immediately outside the top 10 in 11th place with 51.5 touches per match. The next three positions are occupied by considerably more established names. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford ranks 12th with 50.5, followed by Fulham’s Bernd Leno at 50.33. Athletic Bilbao and Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon is 14th with 49.67. Their positions provide a useful reference point for the leaders. Noll averages 12.5 more touches per match than Pickford, while Stankovic, Kristof and Dituro all exceed the England goalkeeper by close to 10 touches or more.
The remaining places are tightly grouped. Alfonso Herrero ranks 15th at 49.0, Maty Ryan 16th at 48.86, Alex Remiro 17th at 48.57 and Robin Risser 18th at 48.5. Stole Dimitrievski follows at 45.75 before Leo Roman completes the top 20 at 45.5 touches per match.
17.5 touches separate first from 20th
Noll’s 63.0 touches per match put him 17.5 ahead of Roman, the difference between first and 20th in the ranking. That equates to a 38.5% higher touch rate for the leader. The average across the top 20 stands at 53.16 touches per match, with 10 goalkeepers above that level. Thirteen average at least 50 touches, while the final seven range from Unai Simon’s 49.67 to Roman’s 45.5.
The ranking also shows why total touches alone can give a different picture. Dituro has touched the ball more times in absolute terms than any of the other 19 goalkeepers, but Noll, Stankovic and Kristof all rank above him once those totals are adjusted for minutes played.
Methodology:
Winsportsonline analysed goalkeepers’ ball touches data from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 and ranked the 20 highest figures by touches per 90 minutes. Every goalkeeper included played complete 90-minute matches, so touches per match and touches per 90 minutes are identical. Total touches include all recorded interactions with the ball and therefore measure overall involvement rather than passing or build-up activity alone.
